Bengaluru, 2nd December 2023: The Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled, in collaboration with Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Agraja Foundation Udupi, and the Karnataka Cricket Association for the Blind, proudly organized the State Level T-10 Women’s Cricket Tournament for the Blind. The landmark event unfolded on November 29th and 30th, 2023, at the MAHE A ground, End Point in Manipal.
Featuring four teams comprising 56 players from across Karnataka, the tournament was a prestigious showcase of talent and determination. Beyond vying for the trophy, these players aspired to secure the opportunity to represent Karnataka at the national level.
The event commenced with a grand inauguration on November 29th, followed by the valedictory ceremony held today at 3:30 PM on November 30th, both at the same venue. The Blind Women’s Cricket Tournament is a celebration of the spirit and skills of visually impaired women, providing a unique platform for showcasing their cricketing prowess and fostering a sense of empowerment and inclusion within the community. It underscores the importance of sports in the lives of the visually impaired, promoting health, teamwork, and resilience.
Distinguished Dignitaries graced the valedictory ceremony, including Dr. K VidyaKumari, I.A.S Udupi District Commissioner (DC), Mr. Yashpal Anand Suvarna, Udupi District MLA, and MAHE Dignitaries such as Dr. H S Ballal, Pro Chancellor of MAHE, Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M. D. Venkatesh, Vice Chancellor, Dr. Sharath Rao, Pro Vice Chancellor – Health Sciences, and Dr. Mahantesh G Kivadasannavar – Chairman of Cricket association for the blind in India, along with Busegowda, President of Cricket Association for the Blind in India.
The tournament witnessed an intense face-off in the Finals between SAMARTHANAM BANGALORE and KARWAR. KARWAR won the toss and chose to field. Batting first, Samarthanam set a score of 140 runs, losing only 1 wicket in 10 overs, with Sunita delivering an outstanding performance scoring 78 runs off 38 balls. In response, Karwar managed to score 71 runs, losing 7 wickets in their 10 overs. Samarthanam won by 69 runs, clinching the championship in a display of skill and determination.
