Bangalore, March 9, 2024: International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-B) is set to host a two-day conclave aimed at fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and collaboration within academia and the industry. The RISE (Research, Innovation, Society and Entrepreneurship) Conclave, scheduled for March 22nd and 23rd, 2024, promises to be a dynamic gathering of thought leaders, industry experts, and academia enthusiasts.

Prof. Debabrata Das, Director of IIIT-Bangalore, expressed his anticipation, stating, “The RISE event serves as a central hub for academia to address the challenges and opportunities in cultivating research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. We aim to inspire and equip academic institutions to become a core system of innovation and entrepreneurship.”

RISE One-Day Conclave, the first day of the conclave scheduled for March 22nd, will feature the one-day summit with a theme on ‘Sustaining and Scaling up Innovation & Entrepreneurship in Academia’.

Dr. Lakshmi Jagannathan, Chief Executive Officer, of Innovation Centre, and Executive VP, of COMET Foundation sets the tone with her insight, stating, “With the Indian Deeptech startup ecosystem exponentially growing, academia will play a key role in nurturing and enabling startups. In this perspective, the RISE One Day Conclave will be an opportunity for the ecosystem to collectively evolve strategies to build a sustainable, robust ecosystem to support Indian startups to build solutions for not only India but also for the world at large.”

The conference will kick off with an inaugural session featuring luminaries such as Prof. Srinath Srinivasa, Dean (R&D) at IIIT-Bangalore. Keynote addresses by industry stalwarts, including Mr. Chandran Krishnan, Founder, MD & CEO of Campus Angels, and Mr. Uday Prabhu, Chief Innovation Officer at Bosch Global Software Technologies Pvt. Ltd. will initiate the rhythm for the day’s discussions.

The highlight of the day will be a panel discussion on the role of corporates in evangelizing innovations on academic campuses, moderated by Prof. Rajagopalan from IIIT-Bangalore, with participation from industry leaders such as Mr. Sanjay Gopinath from MathWorks India Pvt. Ltd. and Mr. Amit Chaterjee from Intel. The day will conclude with a campus startup showcase, providing a platform for budding entrepreneurs to showcase their innovations.

On March 23rd, the focus will shift to the RISE Open House, inviting participants to explore the latest developments in research and innovation at IIIT-B. Prof. Shivakumar Malapaka, Organizing Chair of RISE says, “The RISE Open House offers a unique opportunity for professionals, academics, and students to engage in dialogue, collaboration, and knowledge exchange. It also offers a unique window into the vibrant research landscape at IIIT-B, showcasing ongoing projects and initiatives.”

Prof. Meenakshi D’Souza, MS, PhD, Programme Coordinator at IIIT-Bangalore, says, “The Open House aims to inspire educational pursuits focussed on research for undergraduate and postgraduate students and faculty members alike. Additionally, it serves as a nexus for forging partnerships between industry and academia, identifying avenues for collaboration. Attendees will gain insights into IIIT-B’s flexible Intellectual Property (IP) policy and explore various collaboration models. Furthermore, the event will facilitate the creation of a collaborative platform for internships and job opportunities, fostering meaningful connections between aspiring talents and industry leaders.”
