Kolkata, Dec 01:  British Council, the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities and the Tollygunge Club are pleased to announce Scottish musician Ruairidh Maclean (RuMac)’s live performance at the Tollygunge Club in Kolkata on Thursday, 4 December 2025. Marking his first visit to India, this follows RuMac’s performance at the Hornbill Festival 2025 in Nagaland, where the United Kingdom is a Country Partner for the festival’s 26th edition.

An acclaimed accordionist and singer-songwriter, RuMac’s work blends traditional Scottish folk influences with contemporary soundscapes, experimentation, and powerful storytelling. Known for compelling live performances and a genre-fluid approach, he is regarded as an exciting voice in contemporary music. Presented in partnership with the Tollygunge Club, RuMac’s performance promises to offer audiences an engaging and high-energy musical experience.

Ahead of the performance, Dr Debanjan Chakrabarti, Director East and Northeast India, British Council, said,

“As part of his debut India visit, we are delighted to welcome RuMac to Kolkata. His approach to music – deeply rooted in tradition yet boldly innovative – embodies the spirit of creative exchange that the British Council champions. As we continue to work towards deepening UK–India cultural collaboration, we are pleased to partner with Tollygunge Club to create opportunities that connect artists, audiences, and institutions across borders.”

Mr Songit Bagrodia, President Tollygunge Club, added,

“The Tollygunge Club is pleased to collaborate with the British Council to host RuMac’s debut showcase in India. As an institution committed to promoting cultural engagement and artistic appreciation, we are honoured to welcome an artist of his calibre to Kolkata and look forward to an exceptional evening of music.”

Scottish artist Ruairidh Maclean (RuMac) also shared his excitement ahead of the performance, saying,

“I’m thrilled to be performing in India for the first time, in a part of the world I’ve never had the chance to visit before. I’m especially looking forward to my show in Kolkata at the Tollygunge Club and to bring a little bit of The Highlands of Scotland along with me; hopefully you’ll like what I do! Slàinte!”
