Fingerprint and face-based approval is now live for UPI transactions up to ₹10,000, making everyday Scapia Pay payments quicker, simpler and safer.
Bengaluru, Sept 02: Scapia, India’s leading travel fintech platform, today announced the launch of biometric authentication for UPI payments on Scapia Pay. The feature makes payments faster, seamless, and secure, where users no longer need to enter their bank-linked UPI PIN for transactions under ₹10,000 – a simple fingerprint or face scan is all it takes to authenticate a payment. On iOS, payments are verified with Face ID; on Android, with fingerprint recognition.
Commenting on the launch, Anil Goteti, Founder & CEO, Scapia, said: “Biometric authentication brings our security-first approach to everyday payments. A UPI PIN is often the one manual step left in an otherwise instant transaction, and we’re combining on-device verification, seamless design, and NPCI-aligned safeguards to make paying as simple, and as safe, as unlocking your phone.”
This launch strengthens Scapia Pay’s UPI payments capability with fingerprint and Face ID-based authentication for transactions. Every check runs entirely on the user’s own device, and biometric data is never transmitted to or stored by Scapia or the user’s bank. With no PIN to type, there’s also nothing for anyone to observe or copy over someone’s shoulder at a crowded checkout or shopping queue.
In line with NPCI guidelines, the feature covers UPI transactions up to ₹10,000; anything higher continues to require standard PIN confirmation, an added safeguard built in for larger transfers.
Key highlights include:
● PIN-free payments up to ₹10,000: A fingerprint or a glance replaces the PIN for every eligible UPI payment, in line with NPCI’s transaction limit for biometric authentication.
● Per-account activation: True to how a UPI PIN works today, biometric authentication is switched on separately for each bank account linked to Scapia Pay, with a quick one-time confirmation.
● On-device privacy: Biometric data never leaves the user’s phone – it is never transmitted to or stored by Scapia or the linked bank.
The launch comes as UPI has become India’s default payment rail, with the network processing ~20 billion transactions in a single month in June this year. As adoption grows, Scapia Pay continues to reward everyday spending. Every eligible UPI transaction over ₹500 made with a Scapia co-branded RuPay credit card earns a guaranteed 5% back in Scapia Coins, redeemable toward the user’s next trip. Scapia Pay also offers a seamless one-click RuPay credit card linking process.
Scapia Pay’s biometric authentication is live now on the Scapia app. Users can turn it on from the Scapia Pay section by selecting their UPI profile and confirming it for each linked bank account.
